Transition

Change is a normal part of life and can provide opportunities for children to develop their resilience. Our arrangements are designed to reduce anxiety and promote a smooth transition at every stage of a child's educational journey.

Y2 to Y3 Transition

All our children from our Newman Road site will move to our Fife Road site, without any admission paperwork. Throughout the year, our staff work closely together to run a series of exciting transition. These events allow children and their parents to get to know their new environment and the staff.

  • Picnic and sports day on the school field
  • Theatre performance in the school hall
  • Assemblies in the school hall
  • Teacher ‘swap shop’ – Y3 staff visit the Newman Road site  to teach their new Y2 classes in a familiar environment and read ‘social stories’ to help prepare the children for change
  • Question and answer session with current Y3 children for Y2 children to ask questions
  • Transition days for all classes with new teachers in July

Y6 to Y7 Transition

Most children will typically feel a mixture of nervous and excited about transitioning to secondary school. It is perfectly normal to feel a bit anxious or worried about a changing situation.

The transition to secondary school is also of importance to us and we strive to prepare our children well and equip them with the skill, knowledge and confidence to continue to the next stage in their educational journey.

Our children move on to a variety of secondary schools, although the vast majority of children transfer to Hinde House 2-16 Academy Secondary Phase, allowing for a seamless learning journey within Brigantia Learning Trust.

Close liaison with all secondary schools ensures that the needs of our Y6s are met. Y6 teaching staff and the SENCo share their knowledge about each child with their future schools and provide detailed information in response to secondary school requests.

In School Transition

During the Summer Term, we hold transition days and information sessions for current pupils and their parents to get to know their new teachers.
